Evelyn Marquez-Reed, CPC, CPC-I is an approved Professional Medical Coding Curriculum (PMCC) instructor who carries 20 years of coding and billing experience in her portfolio. She is a regular presenter in American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) workshops, and past president of local AAPC chapter Southern NM.
As medical coding-audit analyst in the University of New Mexico, Albaquerque, NM, she conducts 100 percent auditing review for the internal medicine department with over 20 physicians, ensuring that coding is accurate and consistent with guidelines. She also performs abstract coding and billing for the same department, with specialties including but not limited to hospitalists, cardiology, pulmonary disease, infectious disease, nephrology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, rheumatology, intensive care, trauma, neurosurgery, oncology, general surgery, and palliative care.
She also served as Silver Health Care’s billing/audit customer service manager in Silver City, NM, where she oversaw coding and billing of inpatient/outpatient charges for sixteen providers, in a multi-specialty environment. In Kirtland AFB, Albaquerque, NM, where she was the medical records/lead coding auditor for one year, she supervised coding technicians with day-to-day issues while coding multi-specialty clinics, auditing about 350 charts a month with 95-100 percent accuracy.
